Disney Plus: The latest in UX evolution from Walt Disney
Disney Plus launched with a bang, garnering nearly 10 million subscribers within the first couple of days. The on-demand access to nearly 500 movies and 7,500 TV episodes was an appealing decision to many, including myself and my three Frozen, Toy Story and Cars loving kids under the age of 6.
Disney Plus’s launch is a response to the changing world in how we all watch movies and TV and a great example of how Disney has evolved over time by focusing on UX (user experience). In this UX Magazine article written by Joseph Dickerson, Dickerson acknowledges that many of the UX strategies we use today can be found in the principles that Disney and his team of Imagineers had as they launched their theme parks.
Disney’s Imagineering President Marty Sklar created a list of values for everyone at Disney to strive to. He shared these in the book One Little Spark!: Mickey’s Ten Commandments and The Road to Imagineering (Sklar 2015).
As we all look for ways to drive more engagement with our audience, it is a good reminder that you do not always have to look to the future to develop new ideas when you can learn from those that have succeeded before us and continue to do so!
